Have you been watching the Winter Olympics? We’ve had it on at our house, and it’s been really fun to watch with the kids. Grit is a big topic in our household and something we intentionally teach regularly, so there have been so many great, real-life teachable moments watching these athletes compete.

The early mornings, the falls, the comebacks, the years of practice behind one single performance… it’s such a powerful reminder of what perseverance actually looks like. Team USA has had some exciting moments on the slopes and the ice, and it’s been fun cheering on our athletes!

In today’s Scoop:

Round Rock rallies for families
🌿 Hands-on healing on the farm
🐟 Fresh seafood, flair, and fun
🫶 Morning fuel with thoughtful touches

🛍️ Serving Center Expands to Meet Demand

The Gist: The Round Rock Area Serving Center has doubled the size of its Treasures resale shop to help meet rising food demand, up 8 percent this year. Sales from the thrift store fund nearly 40 percent of its mission. Phase 2 will expand the food pantry next month, and Phase 3 will add a veterans service space.

Why It Matters: The Serving Center supports around 1,200 families each month and distributed 1.8 million pounds of food last year. More space means more help for neighbors in need. If you’d like to see the expansion firsthand, the community is invited to a ribbon cutting on Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. It’s always encouraging to see Round Rock rally around its own!

✈️ AUS Opens West Infill Expansion

The Gist: Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has opened its new West Infill project at the Barbara Jordan Terminal. The 75,000+ square foot expansion includes a new TSA checkpoint, more ticketing counters, upgraded baggage handling, and even new art installations and sustainability improvements.

Why It Matters: Even if you’re not a frequent flyer, it’s nice to know the airport is keeping up with how fast our area is growing. Fewer lines and a smoother experience make a difference whether you’re heading out of town. Anything that makes travel feel a little less stressful is a win to me!

🚌 Georgetown May Adjust Transit Programs

The Gist: Georgetown leaders are looking at possible changes to the city’s rideGTX and GoGeo transit programs after facing a $70,000 funding gap. Ideas on the table include shortening rideGTX hours to 6 a.m.–10 p.m., increasing fares from $4 to $6, and possibly limiting the number of trips riders can take. City staff are also considering whether the two programs could eventually be combined in a future budget year.

Why It Matters: For many neighbors, these services are how they get to work, doctor’s appointments, and everyday errands. Any changes could have a real impact, so residents are hoping the city finds a solution that keeps transportation reliable and accessible for those who depend on it most.

🌊 $1M Flood Warning Grant for WilCo

The Gist: Williamson County commissioners approved a grant agreement Feb. 10 that could bring $1 million in flood warning equipment to areas prone to flash floods. The Texas Water Development Board funding could cover outdoor sirens, flood gauges, sensors and communication software testing and training. Project proposals are due by Dec. 31, and no local match is required.

Why It Matters: Better warning tools could help protect lives and property, especially in the county’s most vulnerable areas. It’s an investment that will hopefully make neighbors feel a little safer when the next big storm rolls in.
