As food demand rises in Round Rock, the Round Rock Area Serving Center has completed a major expansion of its thrift store, Treasures Charity Resale Shop & Boutique. The nonprofit now operates a larger, consolidated facility that combines its clothing and furniture stores, positioning it to provide more support to local neighbors.
Bringing the vision to life
The project relied on community effort, with more than 100 volunteers helping move inventory, set up shelving, and organize the new space over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. The center had previously purchased $24,000 in matching shelving from a closing Bed Bath & Beyond, held for this expansion.
The soft opening on January 20 generated nearly $4,000 in sales, double a typical day, allowing the center to increase unrestricted funds for food, rental, and utility assistance. Executive Director Lori Scott said volunteers were excited and took great ownership of the project.
Continuing growth
Phase 2 of the center’s expansion will relocate the food pantry into the former furniture store space, doubling its size and improving flow for the 1,200 families served each month. Phase 3, expected in March, will open a veterans’ service facility in the old clothing boutique space.
Last year, the center assisted over 110,000 people and distributed 1.8 million pounds of food. With the new facility, the organization can meet growing demand and better support its client choice model, allowing families to shop for groceries as they need.
How to help
The center is calling for donations, volunteers, and shoppers. Every dollar spent in the thrift store directly supports local families. The community is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 26 at 4 p.m. to celebrate the new facility and tour the expanded store.
