OK, help us settle an annual debate. When is the appropriate time to decorate for fall?
TJ already got the Halloween stuff out this past weekend (yes, I know, it’s still August!). The kids love it, so I can’t really resist too much. But personally, I think a sprinkle of pumpkins and fall décor in September feels right, and then Halloween decorations can wait until October 1.
What about you? Do you go all in on early fall vibes, or do you wait until the calendar says it’s officially spooky season?

When do you decorate for fall?

🏡 Lakeside Estates bringing 1,300 homes to west Georgetown

The Gist: Georgetown City Council has approved the first reading of a consent agreement for the Lakeside Estates MUD, a 722-acre development above Lake Georgetown. The plan calls for 1,312 single-family homes, nearly 187 acres of parkland, and space for a hotel or resort.
Why It Matters: The project will significantly expand housing in western Williamson County while adding trails, public parks, and road connections to ease growth pressures.
What’s Next: A second council vote today (Aug. 26) will determine if the development officially moves forward.

🏫 Big changes in Texas schools this year

The Gist: Big changes are rolling into Texas classrooms this year. Lawmakers rolled out a $1B school voucher program, approved $8.5B to raise teacher pay, banned student cell phones during school hours, and extended the DEI ban to K-12.
A new law that would have required Ten Commandments posters in classrooms is on hold for now after a federal judge paused it. On top of that, schools are adjusting to new rules for reviewing library books and have more flexibility in disciplining students.
Why It Matters: From how lessons happen to how teachers are paid (and even what’s on classroom walls), these new rules will shape daily life for families, teachers, and students across the state.
