The Super Bowl is coming up this weekend, and based on our poll, it sounds like we’ve got way more Seahawks fans than Patriots fans around here. We’ll see how it all shakes out!

Truth be told, we’re more of a college football household than NFL, but we’ll still be tuning in for the big game. There are tons of great places running game day specials, including Thirsty Longhorn in Georgetown and Pardner’s in Round Rock, both solid spots to catch the game with a crowd. If football isn’t your thing, the warmer weather this weekend is a pretty solid consolation prize. We’re excited to soak up some sunshine and cheer on the kids at their outdoor sports games. However you’re spending the weekend, we hope it’s a good one!

The Gist: City Council approved $179,041 for renovations to the popular Garey Park splash pad. The work will fix worn flagstones and maintain the anti-slip surface. Renovations are scheduled to be complete by mid-March.

Why It Matters: Since opening in 2018, the splash pad has been a go-to spot for families, especially on hot days, with 28 motion-activated water features kids love. These updates should make it safer and ready to go for its April reopening. A lot of parents (myself included!) are already counting down the days to bring their kids back for another fun summer at the park.

The Gist: Round Rock ISD trustees voted Jan. 29 to extend Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez’s contract through 2029. The board also approved a 1 percent raise to his $350,000 base salary and a $18,520 bonus in January. An updated contract will be finalized in the coming weeks.

Why It Matters: Leadership stability matters for students, teachers, and families, especially in a fast-growing district like Round Rock ISD. Many locals value consistency at the top as schools plan for the years ahead. It’s reassuring for families to know the district will have steady leadership as students grow and move through their school years.

The Thirsty Longhorn keeps Super Bowl Sunday easy and fun with wall-to-wall sports viewing, stadium-style eats, and plenty to do between plays. Shoot a little pool, try darts or Golden Tee, or cue up your favorite songs on the TouchTunes jukebox.
