A major addition to local veteran care
A new Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic will soon open in Round Rock to better serve the growing veteran population in Central Texas. The $44.5 million facility, planned for 4425 University Boulevard, is scheduled to open in 2027. The site is located between Texas 130 and Interstate 35, near Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital, which is preparing for a large-scale expansion next year.
What to expect from the new clinic
Once complete, the Round Rock VA Outpatient Clinic will employ about 100 people and operate 12 patient care teams. The facility will provide a range of services including primary care, pharmacy support, physical therapy, imaging, prosthetics, laboratory work, and mental health treatment.
The clinic will become part of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, which already includes nine outpatient centers and two hospitals serving veterans across the region.
Why Round Rock was selected
Officials said the new location was chosen because of Round Rock’s population growth and its proximity to a large veteran community. As of 2019, more than 28,000 veterans were enrolled in the Central Texas system within a 30-minute drive of the city.
Christopher Myhaver, executive director of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, said the new clinic will help meet growing demand. He described the project as a necessary step to accommodate an expanding veteran population.
A growing regional network
The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System currently serves about 144,000 enrolled veterans across 37 counties. It operates outpatient clinics in Austin, Cedar Park, Killeen, Copperas Cove, Temple, Waco, Bryan, Brownwood, La Grange, and Palestine, along with medical centers in Temple and Waco.
Canaan Brumley, a spokesperson for the Central Texas system, said the Round Rock location will improve access to both primary care and mental health services, helping veterans receive care closer to home.
