A major win for Georgetown’s tech sector
Pegatron, a Fortune 500 electronics manufacturer based in Taiwan, is preparing to open its first U.S. production facility in Georgetown. The company builds desktop computers, smart home devices, wearable technology and computer servers for global brands. The new plant will be located in the Blue Springs development and is expected to open in summer 2026.
Why Georgetown was selected
Cameron Goodman, the city’s director of Economic Development, said the project has been in discussion for years. Pegatron reviewed dozens of locations in the United States and abroad before choosing Georgetown. Goodman credited the region’s skilled workforce, access to talent across the Austin metro area and strong relationships with local education partners such as Georgetown ISD, Austin Community College, Texas State University, Southwestern University and the University of Texas.
Goodman noted that Pegatron’s facility will be a manufacturing operation rather than a data center. He said this distinction matters for the community because the plant will be a low water user, easing concerns about resource demands.
Infrastructure prepared in advance
City officials said Georgetown has been planning for this type of advanced manufacturing project. Utilities and infrastructure capacity have already been evaluated, and the Blue Springs area has roads and networks in place to support the facility. Upgrades to the Southeast Inner Loop in recent years helped lay the groundwork, funded in part by voter approved sales taxes that created two economic development corporations.
Goodman said long term planning has positioned the city to welcome a large employer while reducing strain on residents.
Job and economic impact
Pegatron expects to hire hundreds of employees and has committed to at least 100 hires within the first three years. Goodman said total employment will likely grow as operations scale. He also noted that new spending from workers and suppliers is expected to reach local shops, restaurants and service businesses.
For residents like Cheryl Lee of Round Rock, the employment opportunities stand out as a key benefit for new graduates and job seekers in the region.
Pegatron’s arrival adds another layer of momentum to Georgetown’s fast growing tech economy.
