Project overview

The next phase of Kenney Fort Boulevard is moving forward in Round Rock. City Council recently approved the purchase of 3.7 acres of right of way for the project, paving the way for the construction of Segment 5. The land acquisition cost $500,000 and is funded by the Round Rock Transportation and Economic Development Corporation.

Roadway details

Segment 5 will stretch from Old Settlers Boulevard to County Road 112, where Segment 6 will begin and continue north to University Boulevard. Once completed, the extension will improve connectivity between major east-west routes and help relieve traffic congestion throughout the growing city.

Director of Public Works Michael Thane said part of County Road 117, near its intersection with County Road 112, will be removed and converted into an internal driveway once the new segment is complete.

Next steps

Design work for Segment 5 is currently underway and is expected to be finished by next fall. Thane noted that construction funding has not yet been allocated, but city staff plan to secure those funds as design plans reach completion.

Long-term vision

The Kenney Fort Boulevard expansion is part of Round Rock’s broader goal to develop a continuous north-south corridor that will support future growth, improve mobility, and provide additional access between neighborhoods, commercial areas, and major regional highways.
