Council backs $1.9M in property purchases to support long-term infrastructure growth
Round Rock City Council has approved two major land acquisitions aimed at expanding city services, including a larger public works campus and an additional fire station.
Public works complex expansion
On Aug. 14, the city agreed to purchase 2.9 acres near the Bob Bennett Complex from SPJST Lodge 187, a Czech fraternal benefit society, for $1.4 million. The parcel sits between existing city property and will allow the public works facility to continue its planned buildout.
“We’ve always looked at this 3 acres in between here and wanted to acquire it because it really helps build out our master plan for this entire property,” said Michael Thane, Round Rock’s director of public works.
The Bob Bennett Complex currently houses several city divisions and is undergoing a phased expansion to add community and neighborhood services along with general services. Full completion is expected by 2029.
Fire Station No. 11
Council also approved a $489,078 agreement with Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital for 2.45 acres at Seton Parkway and University Boulevard, the future site of Fire Station No. 11. The station will follow the same design as Fire Stations No. 1 and No. 10, both funded by 2023 general obligation bonds.
A new addition to this design will be an 800-square-foot police satellite office, providing separate access for law enforcement staff.
