Project Moves Forward
Round Rock City Council has approved a design contract for Fire Station 11, clearing the way for a new public safety facility near A.W. Grimes Boulevard and University Boulevard. The site is located just west of Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital.
The station will be the third built using funds from the city’s 2023 public safety bond package, which was approved by voters last year.
Design Contract Awarded
McKinney York Architects was awarded a $372,000 contract to design the new facility. The Austin-based firm also designed Fire Stations 4 and 9, the first two funded by the same bond measure. The firm’s continued work with the city allows for consistency across the new stations.
Dual-Purpose Facility
In addition to serving the fire department, Fire Station 11 will include an 800-square-foot police satellite office. The office will have its own entrance and serve as a flexible workspace for Round Rock police officers.
City officials say this dual-use approach allows for better coordination between departments and adds another layer of public safety presence in a rapidly growing area.
Total Budget
The project carries a total budget of $10.5 million, as outlined in the original bond package. That figure covers design, construction, and associated costs.
What’s Next
With the design contract in place, McKinney York Architects will begin the planning phase. A construction timeline has not yet been announced.
