Round Rock and Georgetown have been recognized among the safest suburbs in America for 2025, according to a new analysis from SmartAsset. The personal finance firm evaluated 360 suburbs near major U.S. cities and ranked Georgetown at No. 71 and Round Rock at No. 111.
The list also included two other Central Texas communities: Cedar Park at No. 55 and Taylor at No. 103.
Strong safety scores and steady growth
To determine the rankings, SmartAsset looked at five key metrics: violent crime, property crime, drug overdose deaths, traffic fatalities, and the percentage of adults who report excessive drinking. While crime rates were calculated at the city level, other health and safety factors were based on county-level data.
Both Round Rock and Georgetown are located in Williamson County, where the traffic death rate is 8.74 per 100,000 residents, and 20.65 percent of adults engage in excessive drinking, according to the report.
Quality of life draws new residents
Round Rock continues to receive national recognition for its livability. It was recently named one of America’s safest cities by MoneyGeek and ranked 10th among the most affordable fast-growing cities in the country.
Georgetown has become a magnet for new residents as well, thanks to its growing population, accessible housing market, and reputation as a safe, family-friendly community just north of Austin.
SmartAsset’s report notes that families often weigh both cost of living and public safety when deciding where to settle. The findings reflect ongoing trends in Central Texas, where suburban areas are drawing attention for offering both.
While Lehi, Utah held the top national spot for the second year running, the performance of Round Rock and Georgetown shows that the Austin metro continues to rank well in national quality-of-life studies.
