I couldn’t miss this chance to thank — and brag about — TJ, my husband and business partner in these newsletters.
He shows up. He’s intentional with the kids. Leads by example. Brings humor into the chaos. And he keeps his priorities clear, even when life gets busy.
We’re lucky to have him — at home and on the team. And we're glad this day gives us a reason to say it out loud.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads showing up and shaping their families in big and small ways. ❤️

Earlier this month, Round Rock ISD leaders shared updates on their proposed 2025–26 budget and staff compensation plan, shaped by a new state funding law passed in June. The approved pay plan includes raises for teachers, especially those with three or more years of experience, and a 1% increase for non-teaching staff.
The district is projecting a small $1.08 million shortfall, a significant improvement from earlier estimates. Trustees are set to vote on the full budget on 06/17. Read more here.
The Gist: You have to see this documentary about the wild drama behind the Texas BBQ scene and the Black family. It gets into the huge family feuds, the old-school spots, and how Texas Monthly's top 50 list can literally make or break a restaurant. If you've been to Terry Black's or Black's near downtown, that's who this is about. And you can watch it now on YouTube or KXAN!
Why it matters: The crazy family drama they talk about is the exact reason we have Terry Black's here in Austin, which started after a major family split at the original Black's in Lockhart. Read more here.

If Dad’s a fan of bold flavors and rustic charm, Wildfire’s your Father’s Day fix. From oak-grilled sea scallops to elk tenderloin and colossal shrimp, the menu leans indulgent in all the right ways. Warm lighting, towering chandeliers, and a saloon-style bar round out the experience.
Pro tip: the Black Forest cake is worth saving room for. It’s cozy, refined, and distinctly Texan—just like the best kind of dad. Get more details here.

No frills, just seriously good barbecue—and that’s exactly why Rudy’s hits the mark. Moist brisket, spicy chopped beef, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and creamed corn that’s practically famous. It’s a Texas staple for a reason.
If Father’s Day calls for smoky, saucy, stick-to-your-ribs satisfaction, Rudy’s is the laid-back, flavor-packed stop that’ll fill Dad up and then some. Get more details here.
