Lots of kids around the area are heading back to school this week, but we’re feeling pretty lucky over here. We still have one bonus week of summer before our kids head back next Wednesday.
My mom came down from Colorado to help us soak up the last little bit of it, and we had the best time showing Mimi around. One of my favorite things about having visitors is getting to play tourist in our own town. We hit plenty of our favorite spots, squeezed in lots of fun and reminded her just how much there is to love about living here.

Now we just need to figure out how to talk her into moving here one day. Think we can pull it off?!

🥩 One more chance to visit Brotherton's BBQ

The Gist: Brotherton's Black Iron Barbecue will close Aug. 30 after nearly a decade in Pflugerville. The award-winning restaurant said rising beef prices, ongoing financial challenges and limited parking all contributed to the decision. Until then, the team plans to keep serving customers and welcoming the community one last time.
Why It Matters: Brotherton's has been a go-to spot for barbecue lovers since 2017, earning fans well beyond Pflugerville. If you've been meaning to stop by, now's the time. Swinging in for one more meal is a simple way to thank the team for nearly a decade of serving the community.
🏗️ Georgetown approves Parmer Ranch rezoning
The Gist: Georgetown City Council approved commercial zoning for an 11.6-acre property near the Parmer Ranch and Highland Village neighborhoods. The site is currently used for agriculture but could eventually be developed for retail or other commercial uses. Before the final vote, residents raised concerns about traffic, late-night businesses and potential impacts on nearby homes.
Why It Matters: The rezoning changes what could be built on the property and opens the door to future commercial development in this part of Georgetown. No businesses have been announced yet, so the next steps will depend on what developers ultimately propose for the site.
☕ Summer Moon Coffee opens in Georgetown
The Gist: Summer Moon Coffee officially opened its Georgetown location on Aug. 8 at 1312 W. University Ave., Suite 102. The Texas-based coffee chain is known for its oak-roasted coffee, signature Moon Milk and breakfast offerings.
Why It Matters: Morning coffee runs are about having options, and Georgetown has one more to choose from. Summer Moon adds another local spot for meeting friends, grabbing breakfast or picking up your favorite drink on the way to work.

Just Opened:

🎴 Sports cards, Pokémon and game nights coming soon

3629 Williams Drive, Georgetown
Bad Habits Card Co. is coming to Williams Drive, giving local collectors a new place to buy, sell and trade sports cards and trading card games. The shop plans to carry unopened boxes, packs, individual cards and accessories for sports, Pokémon, Lorcana and other popular games.
There will also be space for trading card games, giving players a place to meet, trade and play. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 18, followed by the grand opening on Aug. 22.
