The Gist: Round Rock is taking Local Legend nominations through June 30, and the city is looking for people, families, businesses, groups, and institutions with a real tie to Round Rock’s story. Nominees should either have made a big contribution at least 30 years ago or have left a lasting mark on the city. Last year’s honorees were Rev. Dr. A.W. Anthony Mays and Round Rock ISD.

Why It Matters: This is one of those “think back” moments for longtime neighbors. Who helped shape Round Rock before it became what it is today? A teacher, a church leader, a family business, a coach, a community volunteer, a group that always showed up? If someone’s name belongs in the city’s memory, this is a chance to say so.

The Gist: A project filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows plans for a Slick City Action Park in east Round Rock near Red Bud Lane. The indoor amusement spot would be about 44,600 square feet and include slides, a café, and plenty of room for kids to climb, slide, race, and wear themselves out. Construction is estimated at about $1 million.

Why It Matters: Any parent who’s ever stared down a 102-degree afternoon, a rainy Saturday, or a house full of kids bouncing off the walls knows exactly why this matters. Indoor spots like this give Round Rock families another option when the park isn’t ideal, the trampoline place has been done a hundred times, or everyone just needs a change of scenery. For kids and teens, it could mean a new year-round place to move, play, hang out, and burn off some serious energy. I’m excited for this one!

Father’s Day is all about spending time with Dad, and sharing a great meal together is one of the easiest ways to celebrate.
