District secures two sites for expansion
Hutto ISD has purchased two new properties to accommodate future school campuses as the district continues to experience record growth. Officials announced the acquisitions in a news release on October 27.
One site, 17 acres near the Flora housing development, was purchased for $6,028,704 using funds from the 2023 bond. The second property, 20 acres near a future data center and the Hutto Mega Site, cost $5,738,200 and was financed through a combination of the 2019 and 2023 bond programs.
Long-term growth planning
The land purchases are part of the district’s ongoing effort to expand educational facilities and meet the needs of its growing student population. Hutto ISD is also in the process of converting its Ninth Grade Center into a comprehensive high school, a major project funded through the 2023 bond.
In May 2023, voters approved a $522 million bond package to expand and upgrade district infrastructure. The plan includes funding for new schools, technology improvements, and a reimagined administrative center.
Breakdown of the 2023 bond package
Proposition A: $471.5 million for two new elementary schools and the expansion of the Ninth Grade Center
Proposition B: $10.5 million for instructional technology, including classroom computers and audio-visual systems
Proposition C: $40 million to renovate the administrative building at 200 College Street into a districtwide academic center that will also house alternative education programs
These purchases build on the district’s 2019 bond, which provided $194.4 million for campus improvements and planning for future facilities.
Preparing for the future
District leaders said the new land acquisitions align with long-range planning to ensure Hutto ISD can serve its expanding community for years to come. With enrollment expected to continue climbing, the district’s latest investments aim to position its schools for sustainable growth and improved access to learning opportunities.
