A boost for community wellness
Georgetown’s first full-service YMCA is one step closer to reality thanks to a $500,000 contribution from H-E-B. The announcement came during an August 8 celebration at Wellspring Church, where officials shared that part of the gift will go toward construction and part will fund scholarships for local residents to join YMCA programs.
From vision to groundbreaking
City leaders and the YMCA of Central Texas began working together in early 2022 to bring a modern recreation facility to Georgetown. Until now, the YMCA’s presence has been limited to after-school programs, summer camps, and youth activities held in schools and a small storefront. The new facility will bring the city its first full-scale fitness and community hub.
Plans for the new center
The project calls for a 53,000-square-foot building on Williams Drive in northwest Georgetown. It will house a variety of spaces for sports, exercise, and community gatherings. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with the doors opening in late 2026. Sport Clips will also be recognized within the facility for its financial support.
In addition to H-E-B’s contribution, the city will provide funding through a voter-approved bond measure. YMCA of Central Texas Chief Development Officer Theresa Cirigliano said the scholarship portion of H-E-B’s donation will ensure financial barriers do not prevent residents from benefiting from the programs, reflecting a shared commitment to health, connection, and inclusion.
