Happy first week of summer break to lots of you! We’re only a couple days in, but I’m definitely not missing my 5 a.m. alarm clock. I’m getting used to these slower mornings pretty quickly.

Noelle had her Müv dance recital last weekend, and I have to give them so much credit. The whole production was so professionally done, the kids all did amazing, and the choreography was truly awesome. Watching all those dancers up there, so proud of themselves, was a pretty perfect way to kick off summer.

If you’re looking for a dance studio for your kiddo, I’d definitely recommend checking them out. They’ve got a lot going on this summer too, including dance camps, intensives, and flexible summer class cards if your kid wants to keep moving without committing to a full season.

Now, on to this week’s newsletter!

🍎 Round Rock ISD opens free meals

The Gist: Round Rock ISD will offer free summer breakfasts and lunches for kids 18 and younger starting today, May 26. Meals will be available at multiple schools across Round Rock and nearby Austin areas, with no registration or ID required.

Why It Matters: Summer meal programs help fill a real gap once school cafeterias close for break. For many local families, having reliable places for kids to grab breakfast or lunch can ease both grocery costs and daily stress during the summer months.

🚒 Hutto plans new fire station expansion

The Gist: In Hutto, city leaders have approved steps to move forward with a new fire station near the Megasite area as development continues to surge. The project follows a split with the existing emergency services district and could eventually support a separate city-run fire department, with design work expected to take a few months before construction begins.

Why It Matters: This is about keeping emergency response close to where growth is happening fastest. As new homes and businesses spread outward, having fire coverage nearby becomes a practical necessity for safety and faster response times in everyday emergencies.

🏫 Round Rock High renovation plan advances

The Gist: Round Rock ISD trustees approved a revised concept plan for major renovations at Round Rock High School using 2024 bond funds. Plans include new parking, academic and fine arts spaces, athletics upgrades, and selective building demolitions.

Why It Matters: This project will affect a lot of families, from parking and student spaces to fine arts and athletics. It’s also a reminder that bond projects can shift as districts get deeper into the real-world details of cost, construction, and campus needs.
