Playhouse to close at the end of 2025

The Georgetown Palace Theatre will close its Palace Playhouse on Rock Street at the end of the year, according to a recent news release. The final production at the venue will be Dashing Through the Snow, which opens November 28 and will officially mark the end of performances in the black box-style space.

Productions moving to a temporary home

After the Playhouse closes, the Palace Theatre will transition all Playhouse productions to the Doug Smith Performance Center on Second Street. The performance center currently serves as the home of the Palace’s education program and will take on a larger role as staff work toward long-term planning.

The theatre described the move as a proactive step intended to support sustainable growth for both the Playhouse and the organization as a whole.

Looking ahead

The Palace Theatre plans to begin searching for a new, permanent facility to house the Playhouse. While no timeline has been provided, leaders said the goal is to continue expanding performance opportunities in a space built to support future programming.

The Palace Playhouse leaves a meaningful footprint in Georgetown’s arts community, and many will be watching closely as its next chapter begins.
