New Amusement Park Expands COTA Entertainment Complex

Circuit of The Americas (COTA) is expanding its entertainment offerings with the addition of COTALand, a $105 million amusement park set to open on October 19, coinciding with the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. The 20-acre attraction is located on the grounds of the existing motorsports facility in Southeast Austin, approximately 15 miles from downtown.

The park represents a significant diversification for COTA, which has primarily been known for hosting motorsport events since its opening in 2012. Park officials indicate the expansion aims to transform the venue into a year-round destination for both tourists and local residents.

High-Thrill Rides Anchor Attraction Lineup

COTALand will feature more than 30 rides and attractions, with several standout options for thrill-seekers. The park's signature attraction, Palindrome, reaches 95 feet in height and delivers high-speed inversions with forward and backward motion sequences.

Perhaps most notable is Circuit Breaker, which claims the distinction of being the first tilt coaster in the United States. This innovative ride design features a section of track that tilts forward 90 degrees before releasing riders into a beyond-vertical drop, creating a unique sensation unlike traditional roller coasters.

Additional attractions include a mix of family-friendly rides, interactive experiences, and midway games spread throughout themed areas that pay homage to racing heritage and Texas culture.

Visitor Information and Practical Details

COTALand will operate as both a standalone attraction and a complementary experience during major racing events. The park is located at 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd., with dedicated parking facilities separate from the main COTA lots.

Standard admission is priced at $59.99 for adults and $39.99 for children under 48 inches tall, with season passes available for $149.99. Austin residents can receive a 15% discount with proof of residency.

Operating hours will vary seasonally, with extended hours during summer months and racing weekends. The park plans to operate year-round, with limited schedules during winter months.

Impact on Regional Tourism

COTALand joins a growing list of large-scale attractions in Central Texas, filling a niche for thrill rides that has been underserved in the region. Tourism officials project the park could draw up to 500,000 additional visitors annually to the Austin area.

Local hotels and businesses in Southeast Austin anticipate increased traffic, particularly during summer months and event weekends. The addition creates a more well-rounded entertainment destination that can appeal to families accompanying racing enthusiasts to major events.
