🌮 A globally inspired taco spot is now open

Me Land in Georgetown has been one of Noelle and Charlie’s favorite indoor play places since it opened last year, so we were pretty excited to see that its new expansion officially opened July 27. They’ve added more room next door, including a new mini-town play area designed for imaginative play.

Me Land was already one of our go-to spots when it was too hot, too rainy or we just needed an easy way to burn off some energy. Now there’s even more to explore, and we’re looking forward to seeing which part the kids claim as their new favorite. We’ll check it out soon and let you know what we think!

The Gist: Hutto has received a site plan for Cottonwood Marketplace, a new 58-acre shopping and dining development planned near US 79 and CR 132. Developer Fidelis says national and regional brands are already showing interest, although specific businesses and an opening timeline have not been announced.

Why It Matters: Hutto residents have been asking for more places to eat, shop and run everyday errands close to home, and this project could eventually bring a sizable mix of new options to a busy part of town. It is still early in the process, but submitting the site plan is a meaningful step toward turning the long-discussed Cottonwood property into something residents can actually use.

The Gist: Pflugerville now has a place for anyone who wants the pretty party spread without spending an hour folding salami into roses. Graze Craze has opened at Three Points Plaza with made-to-order charcuterie boards, grazing boxes and individual snack cups packed with meats, cheeses, fruit, crackers, sweets, dips and jams.

Why It Matters: It’s a handy new option for birthdays, office gatherings, book clubs, date nights or any occasion that deserves something a little nicer than chips in a bowl. Orders are available for scheduled pickup or delivery, so neighbors can bring home a polished spread without doing all the slicing, arranging and cleanup themselves.

The Gist: Texas’ annual back-to-school Sales Tax Holiday runs Aug. 7–9, allowing shoppers to skip the sales tax on most clothing, footwear, student backpacks and certain school supplies priced under $100. You do not have to be a student or parent to take advantage of the savings.

Why It Matters: Back-to-school lists have a way of adding up quickly, especially when you’re shopping for more than one student. A few dollars saved on new clothes, shoes and supplies can help take a little pressure off the budget before the first day of class arrives.

Velvet Taco opened July 29 at Bluebonnet Plaza, bringing more than 20 scratch-made tacos and bowls to Georgetown. This is not your standard taco lineup: options range from Spicy Tikka Chicken and Fish N’ Chips to the Bacon Smash Burger, along with red curry coconut queso, margaritas and the restaurant’s namesake red velvet cake, baked fresh in-house daily.

The new location includes a 40-seat patio and a hand-painted mural inspired by Georgetown’s red poppies. Diners can also look for a different limited-time creation each week through the restaurant’s Weekly Taco Feature.

Urban Cottage Boutique recently moved from Williams Drive to a new storefront on the Georgetown Square. The family-owned shop brings along its mix of women’s clothing, jewelry, vintage finds, home décor and gifts.

The shelves cover plenty of easy browsing territory, from dresses and accessories to candles, mugs, tea towels and Georgetown-themed gifts. The new downtown location also makes it easy to stop in while shopping, eating or walking around the Square.
