Texas Parks and Wildlife Expands Future State Park in Lampasas and Burnet Counties

1,100 new acres added to parkland featuring river access, natural springs, and community involvement in planning

A future state park is taking shape in Central Texas, thanks to the recent addition of 1,100 acres to a growing property managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Located in Lampasas and Burnet counties, the site now spans over 3,000 acres and promises to offer scenic natural features and recreational opportunities in the years to come.

A Landscape Full of Possibilities

The expanded parkland includes access to the Colorado River, limestone bluffs, and natural springs—elements that hint at the park’s future potential for hiking, paddling, and nature appreciation. While a full development timeline hasn’t been released, the vision is to protect natural habitat while creating space for public use and outdoor recreation.

Community Input Encouraged

Texas Parks and Wildlife is actively seeking public input to help guide the design and development of the park. Local residents and stakeholders will have the opportunity to shape priorities such as trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, and educational spaces. Public engagement sessions are expected soon.

Backed by Statewide Conservation Efforts

Funding for this land acquisition comes from the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund, a $1 billion investment approved by Texas voters in 2023 to grow and enhance the state park system. This latest expansion reflects the state’s broader push to preserve natural spaces amid rapid development across Central Texas.
