The City of Georgetown has launched a flexible ride service called rideGTX, offering residents an alternative to traditional bus routes. This pilot program replaces fixed-route public transit with subsidized rides through Uber and zTrip, aiming to make transportation more accessible across the city.
Participants in the program receive 10 QR-code-based ride credits each month. These can be used for travel within Georgetown city limits and to specific hospitals in Round Rock. Riders pay a $4 co-pay per trip, while the city covers the remaining cost—up to $10 per ride.
The system is designed to support residents who face challenges with regular transportation, including seniors, students, and those without access to a personal vehicle.
City officials introduced rideGTX to improve transit coverage without the high costs of maintaining bus routes. By partnering with established ride-hailing companies, the city can offer more flexible and on-demand transportation options. If community interest and ridership are strong, the program may expand to serve additional locations and users.
