Governor Greg Abbott has formally congratulated Pflugerville on being named a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community, an initiative led by Travel Texas within the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism. The recognition honors Pflugerville’s proactive efforts to attract and support visitors while nurturing local pride and economic opportunity.
Pflugerville is among the first cities in Texas to receive this certification, which was established to spotlight municipalities that create positive visitor experiences through strategic planning and local partnerships. According to the governor’s announcement, the city met specific program criteria such as offering tourism-related training, engaging with local businesses, and developing inclusive marketing initiatives.
“Our certified communities showcase the very best of what Texas has to offer,” said Governor Abbott in a statement. “I thank Pflugerville for playing a key role in welcoming travelers and supporting jobs for hardworking Texans.”
From family-friendly festivals like the Deutschen Pfest to its growing network of parks and trails, Pflugerville blends community charm with visitor appeal. Tourism has become an important part of the city’s economic development strategy, providing revenue streams for small businesses and helping preserve cultural and recreational assets.
The certification process included a comprehensive review of the city’s tourism readiness and collaboration efforts between local government and private stakeholders.
With this recognition, Pflugerville is now positioned to leverage additional support and resources from Travel Texas. This could include access to state marketing initiatives and potential funding opportunities for future tourism infrastructure.
City officials have expressed pride in the designation, viewing it as a validation of ongoing efforts to make Pflugerville a destination—not just a suburb of Austin, but a community with its own unique story to tell.
