K-9 Lucy Retires After Years of Service with Round Rock PD

Beloved explosives detection dog helped crack major cases, now enjoying retirement with her handler

After nearly a decade of dedicated service, K-9 Lucy has officially retired from the Round Rock Police Department. Specializing in explosives detection and tracking, Lucy played a vital role in over 200 deployments, including her critical involvement in the 2018 Austin Bomber investigation.

A Career Marked by Courage and Dedication

Lucy’s work helped ensure safety in high-risk situations across Central Texas. From searching public venues to supporting major criminal investigations, her keen nose and calm demeanor made her a reliable partner to the force. Notably, she assisted during the intense 2018 Austin serial bombing case, one of the most high-profile incidents in recent Central Texas law enforcement history.

A Well-Earned Retirement

Lucy is now off duty and settling into a quieter life. She’ll spend her retirement with her longtime handler, enjoying outdoor adventures, swims, and plenty of belly rubs. While she’ll no longer wear the badge, Lucy remains a cherished member of the Round Rock PD family—and the community that appreciated her years of service.
