Starting in mid-July, Georgetown will officially become part of the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS), a step that builds on years of collaboration with neighboring cities. This change follows the approval of a $15 million bond by Georgetown voters in 2023, aimed at supporting expanded shelter services.
By joining WCRAS, Georgetown becomes the fifth city in the partnership alongside Cedar Park, Leander, Round Rock, and Hutto. The shelter, located at 1855 SE Inner Loop in Georgetown, already serves many residents in the area. Formal membership ensures that Georgetown contributes directly to operations and long-term planning.
The partnership will improve key services such as pet adoptions, reuniting lost pets with their owners, and public education programs. Residents can expect continued access to a no-kill shelter model that prioritizes humane care and community involvement.
The recent bond approval helps fund the city’s portion of shelter improvements and operations. This investment also supports WCRAS’s commitment to expanding capacity as the region grows—ensuring pets and their people get the support they need, close to home.
